Tides move around Earth as bulges in the ocean. As the ocean bulges toward the moon, a high tide is created . The high tide on the side of Earth facing the moon is called the high high tide. The high tide caused by the bulge on the opposite side of Earth is called the low high tide.
On the “near” side of the Earth (the side facing the moon), the gravitational force of the moon pulls the ocean’s waters toward it, creating one bulge. On the far side of the Earth, inertia dominates , creating a second bulge. In this way the combination of gravity and inertia create two bulges of water.
Despite their name, spring tides don’t just occur in the spring; they occur throughout the year whenever the Moon is in a new-moon or full-moon phase, or about every 14 days. Neap tides are tides that have the smallest tidal range, and occur when the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun form a 90° angle.
The tidal bulge on the far side of the earth is not caused by centrifugal force . It is caused by the exact same thing the near-side bulge is caused by: the moon’s gravity. Furthermore, tidal effects are not caused by the overall strength of gravity like planetary orbits are.
At low tide, the molecules of water near the beach all move away from the shore a short distance . Equally, molecules of water slightly further out also move away. The effect is that the entire body of water moves away from the shore at an equal rate.
The so-called equatorial bulge due to the earth’s axial rotation lifts the equator about 23 kilometer . The moon’s gravity gradient lifts water mid-ocean (where the ocean is deep) no more than 1 meter, that’s only 1.6 × 10 – 5 % of the earth radius.

The Effect of Centrifugal Force. It is this little known aspect of the moon’s orbital motion which is responsible for one of the two force components creating the tides. As the earth and moon whirl around this common center-of-mass, the centrifugal force produced is always directed away from the center of revolution.
Thus, tides are draining energy out of Earth’s rotation, slowing it down . Because of this loss of rotational energy in about a billion years or so Earth will rotate at the same rate that the Moon orbits it.
