Are there bears in Curry Village Yosemite?
Black bears out in the west aren’t particularly aggressive
– they’re not going to charge you in the middle of Curry Village! They’re not all that likely to be in Curry Village – too many people, too noisy. They might wander through at night, but staff will scare them off.
How big are bear boxes in Curry Village?
A Bear Box is a place to store all drinks, food, coolers, trash, and toiletries. Anything that may have a scent that may attract bears. The lockers measure:

No. You can’t put a lock on the bear box food lockers.

In Yosemite Valley, there are showers at Curry Village (

) and at Housekeeping Camp (closed in winter). The Tuolumne Meadows Lodge has public showers in summer only with very restricted hours. There are no public showers in Wawona.

- Towels.
- An overhead light (in both heated and unheated tents)
Do bears mess with tents?
Will Bears Bother You In A Tent? Generally speaking, bears don’t want to be around you any more than you want to be around them. Since most black and brown bears are really just looking for food,
they usually only bother people in a tent if they smell something tasty inside
.
How do you bear proof a tent?
- Hang your food pack from a tree limb that is at least 10 feet off the ground.
- Don’t leave food in your tent.
- Leave your tent flaps open so that a bear can walk in and check for food without resorting to force.

Do bear boxes work?
Bear Boxes are designed to not only keep attractive items out of sight, but also to impede the scent of food and fragrant items

Why is Curry Village closed?
In response to rockfall events during 2008, the National Park Service realigned the boundary of the rockfall hazard zone in Curry Village.
To reduce health and safety hazards
, all of the structures within the updated rockfall hazard zone were closed.
Why did Curry Village change its name?
In 2016, the name was temporarily changed to Half Dome Village due to
a trademark dispute between the National Park Service and a private concessions company, Delaware North
. The name was restored in 2019 along with others in Yosemite, upon settlement of the dispute.
Does Curry Village allow Dogs?
