To get into the SMP,

students with no prior military service will attend Basic Combat Training (BCT) and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) during the summer

and will be assigned to a local National Guard or Reserve unit upon completion of training.

SMP cadets are advanced to the pay grade of E-5 or retain a higher pay grade if previously earned, and serve in the rank of Cadet (CDT).

Can you be in the Air National Guard and ROTC at the same time?


You can be a member of the ROTC and in the Air Guard up to the point where you commit to serving the branch whose ROTC program you are in

. Since you cannot be committed to two services at the same time, you would have to separate from the Air National Guard.

Can you have two MOS in the National Guard?


Yes, a Service member can have more than one MOS

, a Primary, Secondary and Alternate. For qualification, SM must attend the training for each MOS. However the Primary MOS must be the duty position that SM is in.

Do ROTC cadets outrank enlisted?

The NCO referred me to AR 600-20, Army Command Policy, which makes it pretty clear that

West Point cadets do, in fact, outrank Army NCOs

. This regulation shows that cadets rank after commissioned and warrant officers, but before NCOs.

When on campus and in uniform,
