Can I take my dog on the train? Due to the comfort and safety of our passengers and staff,

only registered support dogs are allowed on the trains

. We’re a heritage narrow gauge railway so we are restricted for space inside our carriages.

Can dogs go on the Ffestiniog Railway?


Dogs are welcome in the 3rd Class portions of our trains

. A standard fare of £3.00 per dog applies. We regret that dogs (except assistance dogs) are not allowed in 1st class. Guide/Assistance dogs travel free of charge and are welcome in all our station buildings and carriages.

Can I take my dog on Llanberis Lake Railway?


The Llanberis Lake Narrow Gauge Railway allows well-behaved dogs on board for a small fee

. The return trip lasts about an hour, but it is possible to break the journey to take a later train.

Can you walk up Snowdon and get the train back?


It is possible to walk up and get the train down

. To do this you have to queue up at the top, the station master will fill any empty seats on a first come first served basis. There are usually between 2 and 6 splaces on each train.

Can I take a dog on the train?


Passengers can be accompanied for free by up to two dogs

– if you bring more, there may be an additional charge. Keep your dog on a lead throughout your journey. Enclosed pet carriers or crates must be used for dogs not on a lead.

Can you take dogs on Eurostar?

Unfortunately, Eurostar isn’t part of the pet passport scheme, so

we only allow guide dogs and assistance dogs on board

. Since our trains don’t have space to carry animals comfortably, we feel it’s in the best interests of pets, their owners and other passengers not to let them on the train.

No, you can’t take your dog anywhere in the National Park

. A lot of Snowdonia’s land is privately owned without access to the public. However, there is a wealth of fantastic places to exercise your dog. You can walk your dog on any public footpaths or open access land.

, however you can stroll along the small section castle walls high path for a whistle stop tour (although if you have a small pooch with you, be prepared to carry them in parts where the wooden slats are a tad wide apart for little paws)!

Medium family dogs are permitted to travel in the Standard Class section of The Jacobite only (1 per booking)

. They travel for free, but they must remain on a lead at all times and are not permitted on the seats.

Can a 5 year old climb Snowdon?

Their ages are 6 and 11; very active and fit kids. A. We’ve been up Snowdon with children as young as 1-year old (in a baby carrier) and have had them walking up from 4 / 5 or so, no problem.

There is a growing problem of people using Snowdon as a giant public toilet, so make arrangements for a toilet stop before you head up the mountain!

There are toilets in the Hafod Eryri summit building

but the building is closed during winter months and in bad weather so cannot be relied upon.

In the UK

there is no assistance dog register

so it is not possible to register a dog as an assistance dog, regardless of where it has been trained. Only dogs that have been trained by ADUK members are issued an ADUK Identification Booklet.

Much of this walk is rugged, steep and rocky. It can therefore be very challenging in parts, but

. Remember to allow time for breaks and stopping to take in the sights, of which there are plenty. In fact the views of Snowdon are among the best of any route up.
