. As long as a skin tag isn't changing in shape, size or color then it is generally nothing to worry about. However, that isn't to say that cancer can't develop in or around the area of the skin tag.

, you should have your veterinarian examine it. I recommend looking over any skin tags monthly.

Friction, chronic irritation, or trauma
may play a role in the development of skin tags, so you may find them in the skin folds and creases of the body or pressure points, such as your dog's elbows. However, these growths can be found anywhere on the skin.
A skin tag is painless, although it can become irritated if it is rubbed a lot.
If a skin tag is twisted on its stalk, a blood clot can develop within it and the skin tag may become painful

A: The warning signs of cancer in dogs are very similar to that in people.
A lump or a bump, a wound that doesn't heal, any kind of swelling, enlarged lymph nodes, a lameness or swelling in the bone, abnormal bleeding
