Canine work? It begins to reach a dog’s joint synovial fluid within
2 hours
and detectable levels are maintained in the synovial fluid and articular cartilage for up to 3 days (72 hours).
Where is Adequan injected?
Adequan is a solution that is injected
into a dog’s muscle
. The recommended treatment schedule is one injection every 3 or 4 days for a total of eight injections. Generally, injections are given by your veterinarian during an outpatient visit.
How long can a dog stay on Adequan?
If Adequan is the medication of choice for your dog, your vet or vet nurse will administer an Adequan injection twice a week for
up to four weeks for a maximum of eight injections
. After that, your dog may have injections as needed for controlling signs of pain.

Are there side effects to Adequan for dogs?
When administered by a licensed veterinarian, Adequan has
very few side effects
. The most commonly reported side effects were mild pain or swelling at the injection site, diarrhea, and delayed blood clotting that did not require treatment.
How do you know if Adequan is working?
Following IM administration,
Adequan reaches synovial tissue within 2 hours, and persists in the joint for at least 72 hours
. Significant improvement has been shown after 4 weeks of treatment, but studies have not evaluated efficacy before this time point.
Should you walk dogs with arthritis?
Arthritic dogs will benefit from controlled exercise.
Gentle regular lead walks are better than an hour spent running around after a ball or with another dog

Is Adequan an anti-inflammatory?
Though the mechanism by which Adequan makes joints feel better isn’t well understood,

What happens if I give my dog too much Adequan?
Overdose of Polysulfated Glycosaminoglycan (Adequan) is rare but could cause:

Can Adequan cause death in dogs?
Adverse reactions in clinical studies (transient pain at injection site, transient diarrhea, and abnormal bleeding) were mild and self-limiting. In post approval experience,
death has been reported in some cases
; vomiting, anorexia, depression/lethargy and diarrhea have also been reported.
