the ceremony is not open to the public
. Families are discouraged from traveling because the sailors will not be allowed off base following graduation.

. There are many locations for Navy A School, and not all sailors will go to the same school.

What happens if you fail boot camp?
Recruits who don't pass their initial run will get another chance within 48 hours. But if they fail that,
they'll be sent home with an ELS, an entry-level separation from the Navy that will require them to get a waiver if they want to try and enlist again

Can you drop out of boot camp?
After you arrive at boot camp, your fate still isn't sealed. Even though you're now on active duty,
Army command can let you go without penalty during your first 180 days of service
. The official term for this is entry-level separation. Boot camp is the best time because the Army has just started training you.
Will I lose my job if I go to basic training?
No, by law all companies have to provide you with the required time off for military obligation provided that you supply them with a copy of your orders for the weekend drill or 2 week drill. They also have to save your job for you so that way you have your job upon returning.
Will I Be Paid in Boot Camp?
Yes, your pay starts the day you get to boot camp
. Most new enlisted Sailors start out at the E-1 pay grade, but there are exceptions. You may also be eligible for additional bonuses and allowances.
At Navy boot camp, a special recruit division is
responsible for performing musical pieces and drill routines at each boot camp graduation
. Selection for this unit, the 900 Division, usually takes place within a week of the recruit's arrival at the Great Lakes Naval Station for basic training.
Casual Clothing
Your Sailor will either dress in their Navy Dress White or Blue uniform. Both of these uniforms are considered a formal uniform. There is not a dress code for graduation and anything from casual to your Sunday best is what we recommend packing.
Calling Home From Navy Boot Camp
Since you can't always be at home, it is recommended that you enable call forwarding.
At some point in the first few weeks, probably when you least expect it, your recruit will call home
. He or she will most likely sound tired, sick, and depressed.
In basic training, swimming is not an option. All boot-camp recruits are measured by performing push-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups) and running
11⁄2 miles
. Event consists of running 1.5 miles as quickly as possible. Any combination of running or walking is allowed to complete event.

Recruits have
three guaranteed calls
during boot camp: the “I'm here” call the night they arrive, the “I'm still alive” call in the 3rd week of training, and the “I'm a sailor” call in their 7th week. Any other calls have to be earned. Some divisions earn a half-dozen calls, others never earn an extra call.
Do you get to go home for Christmas during basic training?
The Army is the only branch of the military that honors the Christmas Exodus break for all recruits who are in basic training and AIT. Basically,
the Army shuts down all of its training schools during exodus to allow their drill sergeants and instructors to have a break at Christmas.
Can you bring your phone to basic training?
There are no cell phones allowed in Basic Training
. This is a consistent rule for all of the military branches: Do not expect your service member to be able to call you, text you, or receive your messages when they are in Basic Training.
You'll get up at
5 a.m.
every single day. Waking up in the morning is an adjustment process that's the same for every single basic training class. When you first arrive, the drill instructors require a lot of noise, yelling and jostling to get everyone out of the rack.

contracts, where the recruit spends two or three years on active duty, followed by six years in the Active Reserves. The other services offer four, five, and six year enlistment options (The Air Force only offers four and six year enlistments).
