Can you walk around Angel Island?
Angel Island is the largest island in the San Francisco Bay, and a California State Park. To reach the island, we walked down to Pier 41 and took a 15 minute ride on the Blue and Gold Ferry.
The trail is a fairly easy 5.9 mile loop with a short spur to 788 ft.
Are there animals on Angel Island?
Deer and raccoons, both excellent swimmers, are the only large land mammals on the island
. Harbor seals and California sea lions often sun on the rocks. Birds include scrub jays, hummingbirds, flickers, hawks and owls. Near the coves, visitors may find egrets, grebes, blue herons and brown pelicans.

The Perimeter Loop — This route is about
5.5 miles (9 km)
long, most of it on a paved asphalt road, and it both starts and ends at Ayala Cove. The road has gradual uphill and downhill sections (none as steep as the short road that leads up the hill from Ayala Cove), and many reasonably level stretches as well.

What happens if I miss the last ferry? We do not recommend missing the last ferry. It’s very expensive to get you off the island.

How hard is it to bike around Mackinac Island?
Lake Shore Boulevard, State Highway M-185, wraps 8.2 miles around the entire island. It is fairly level, with only a few hills.
Biking will take you about an hour non-stop
but we suggest you stop and take in the sites of the Mackinac Bridge and enjoy the Native American Cultural History Trail information panels.
Can you still bike around Mackinac Island?
If you decide to make your way around the coast of Mackinac Island, walking will take approximately 2.5-4 hours without stopping. You can also bring your own bicycle or rent one from one of the many bicycle shops located on Mackinac Island.

Can I bring my bike over on the ferry to Fire Island?
No, bikes are not permitted on the ferries
. Bikes are taken over on the freight boat that leaves from the end of Maple Ave.
Can you walk from Robert Moses to Kismet?
You can walk to the areas of fire island where you can’t drive.
If you park at Field 5, the one closest to the lighthouse, you can actually walk past the lighthouse to Kismet
, Soltaire and other Fire Island beaches/villages.
Can you bike from Fair Harbor to Ocean Beach?
After you reach Fair Harbor, you’ll encounter another half mile of loose sand that leads to Ocean Beach
. The sunken forest is also a wonderfully scenic ride, located between Point o’ Woods and Sailors Haven. Much like the beach riding, though, be prepared with tires that can handle loose sand and off-road environments.
How do you get to Angel Island?
Access to the Island is
by private boat or public ferry from San Francisco or Tiburon
. Weekday ferry service to the island during the winter is provided by the Golden Gate Ferry from San Francisco.
