: Large bags, backpacks, luggage, posters, signs/banners, gift bags of any size, and flowers. Alcohol, illegal drugs, knives or weapons will be confiscated by security. Any person found with these items will NOT be permitted to enter the ceremony.
The Navy, Army, and Marines have recruits drop out at roughly the same rate as each other,
between 11 and 14 percent annually
. Contrary to what many think, the goal of officers in basic training isn’t just to push recruits to drop out.
Things You Should NOT Bring to Navy Boot Camp
The Navy gives recruits with what they need, and everything else is boxed up and sent home.
Electronics, including MP3 players, cameras, handheld video games
, are prohibited. Sharp objects and weapons of any kind. Do not bring glass items, including mirrors.
The recruit graduation ceremony, also known as Pass-In-Review, is a formal military ceremony which honors your recruit’s hard work and dedication to a new way of life, and ties together the future of the Navy with our long-held Naval traditions and customs.
Items you may not bring:
Cigarettes, dip, lighters or any other tobacco products. Large photo albums.
A few photos are permitted, but space is limited
. Material that is pornographic or can be considered questionable.
Yes, it is possible to fail basic training
. You could go through the trouble of leaving your home, job, family and friends and come back a failure. In fact, this happens to about 15% of recruits who join the military every year. Too many recruits I speak to think that it is impossible to fail basic training.
Recruits have
three guaranteed calls
during boot camp: the “I’m here” call the night they arrive, the “I’m still alive” call in the 3rd week of training, and the “I’m a sailor” call in their 7th week. Any other calls have to be earned. Some divisions earn a half-dozen calls, others never earn an extra call.

After that first day, normal days will run from

Can I bring my phone to basic training?
Yes, you are, but once you get to basic you have a limited time to use the phone, whenever the drill sergeants allow you to
. You cannot use it whenever your feel as you please. They will take it from you initially once you get here, but yes, you can bring your cell phone; that’s good.
In basic training, swimming is not an option. All boot-camp recruits are measured by performing push-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups) and running

. Event consists of running 1.5 miles as quickly as possible. Any combination of running or walking is allowed to complete event.
