Small backpacks may be brought into the galleries if they are worn on your front or side
. We encourage visitors to bring water in plastic and secure bottles into the Museum. Water fountains are not available at this time. Glass containers are not permitted in the Museum.
Does the Met have a dress code?
There is no dress code at the Met

Does the Met check your bags?
Not much else: With the Met’s security procedures, you won’t be able to bring much else with you.
Visitors with backpacks or large bags will be required to check them
, although purses are okay to be carried around. You’re better off leaving large items to avoid the long bag check lines.
Can I bring a backpack to a museum?
Smaller backpacks and bags are permitted, at the discretion of the museum’s security officers, if they are hand-carried
. Backpacks may not be worn on the back, but must be carried on the side, under the arm, or on the front of the body.
Can you bring a laptop to the Met?
We cannot accept luggage, but we can check bags and backpacks –
we suggest having another small bag to carry laptops with you, as those may not be checked

Can you bring cameras to the Met?

You can take photographs of the galleries and the artworks in them unless there’s a notice stating otherwise
. You may also use a tripod so long as you keep well away from the paintings and sculptures.
Can you wear jeans to the Metropolitan opera?
NO SNEAKERS, jeans or t shirts
! You don’t have to wear evening wear but shouldn’t go to the opera in something you’d wear to go grocery shopping or to the gym!
Can you wear jeans to the Met?

. Don’t forget that they are heavily airconditioned, so even if it is hot outside you might want a sweater or jeans instead of shorts.

Why do museums not allow backpacks?
The answer is
to protect the artwork
. Someone wearing a backpack in the traditional fashion could inadvertantly turn and brush into/knock over something with their backpack.
Why do people wear their backpack on one shoulder?
So people who carry heavy backpacks sometimes lean forward. Because of the heavy weight and this unnatural position, they can develop shoulder, neck, and back pain. If you wear your backpack over just one shoulder, or carry your books in a messenger bag, you may end up leaning to one side

We allow backpacks in our museum
. Visitors are permitted to bring food and beverages in sealed containers inside a backpack or other bag. Food and beverages may not be consumed in the museum.

Does the Met have lockers?
The Met doesn’t offer luggage storage
. Visitors can leave backpacks at the coat check, but the queues for coat check service are rather long.
Do you have to wear a mask at the Met Opera?
All audience members must wear face masks at all times inside the Met, except when eating or drinking in designated areas
. Acceptable face masks include tight-fitting cloth masks, surgical masks, or a more protective mask such as a KN95, KF94, or N95. Gaiters, bandanas, or masks with exhalation valves are not allowed.
Where should I sit at the Metropolitan Opera?
Similarly, seats in the
parterre center section
offers a great view of the stage without costing quite as much as premium seats. In the grand tier section, rows four and five of the center two sections can be considered value for money.
What do you wear to the opera 2021?
Business or business-casual clothing
is what most people opt to wear. Think pencil skirts, matching separates, jersey or shift dresses, topped with a blazer. A dress is an easy solution and a good idea. I saw many women in dresses at the opera.
How long is the Met Opera?
The Met also has displays and exhibits scattered through the entire house; walk around and take a glance at the galleries on the lower level or inspect some costumes up close on the grand tier. Many intermissions are longer than the standard
15 minutes—sometimes as long as 45
