The short answer is…
it is not recommended in most situations
. Combining different medications may increase the risk of negative side effects, adverse reactions or can lead to an overdose situation which could put your pet’s life at risk.
Can I use Frontline and Nexgard together?
The study’s authors deemed that
combined use of Frontline Tri-Act and NexGard Spectra for 6 months was safe and effective against endo- and ecoparasite infections in client-owned dogs
. Although all dogs appeared clinically healthy, many were infected with intestinal parasites on initial examination.
Can I put another flea treatment on my dog?
Yes, if after two weeks the flea preventive you applied isn’t working, you can reapply flea treatment early, or switch to another brand
. I recommend using Advantix or a chewable prescription product from your vet, like Bravecto, Nexgard, Simparica, or Credelio. This recommendation is unrelated to Petco or PetCoach.
Can you use flea tablets and spot on together?
A single course of treatment will kill the fleas on their bodies and prevent others from trying to latch on. However, giving your dog more treatment is not going to get rid of fleas from the home and in their sleeping area. Therefore,
don’t waste money or time giving your dog both tablets and spot on treatment
.
What happens if my dog eats 2 flea pills?
Common signs of toxicity from flea products containing organophosphates are
diarrhea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, small pupils, muscle tremor, weakness or falling over, and drooling
. Organophosphate toxicity can be rapidly fatal, depending on the ingredients and dose the pet is exposed to.
How often can I use Detick?
Recommended dosage is
1x application every 2-4 weeks
depending on infestation risk. Do NOT put Detick in any other body part of the pet. Do NOT wash or bathe the dog 3 days BEFORE and 3 days AFTER application. Stripping the dog of their natural oils through bathing reduces the efficacy of Detick.
How soon can I give my dog another flea treatment?
The known safe answer is to wait the period of time the product is supposed to work,
typically 30 days
, before reapplying. An alternative is to bathe the pet in a detergent shampoo (meant to strip off skin oils) and reapply after 24 hours.
Can I give my dog two doses of Frontline?
The minimum time to wait between two treatments of FRONTLINE HomeGard® is 6 months
. It is not necessary to use FRONTLINE HomeGard® repeatedly, if you are regularly treating your cat or dog with an effective flea and tick treatment such as FRONTLINE® spot-on products.
Do fleas jump off after treatment?
No, the fleas don’t jump off after the treatment
. They don’t jump off they rise to the top of the animal and fall off dead.
Is topical flea treatment safer than oral?
Similarly,
if your pet has reacted badly to oral flea treatments, then a topical flea treatment may be a safer option
. Some topical flea treatments do not cross the skin barrier and are not absorbed systemically, so this can be a safer option for pets who are sensitive to medications.
Can I use Advantix and NexGard together?
Also Advantage Multi does not provide any protection against ticks, however
it can be safely combined with other products (i.e. Advantix, Bravecto, Nexgard) safely

Can I give Heartgard and NexGard at the same time?

We also advise not to give multiple treatments at the same time
. You should leave 2 weeks between administering spot-on treatment (e.g. Advocate) and a worming tablet (e.g. Milbemax).
Why does my dog keep getting fleas even after treatment?
Not treating often enough
Fleas go through a life cycle of egg, larvae, pupae and adult. Most flea treatments just kill adult fleas, but fleas can continue to emerge for months after you think an infestation has ended. When a newly emerged female flea finds a host, she can lay eggs within one day.
How long does it take for oral flea medicine to work?
After ingestion, some oral flea, like Trifexis, preventatives begin to kill fleas in at little as 30 minutes and kill 100% of fleas within 24 hours. Fluralaner, afoxolaner, spinosad, milbemycin oxime, praziquantel, and sarolaner are among the many common ingredients found in oral flea and tick preventatives.
