Navy Boot Camp First Phone Call
At RTC Great Lakes, all recruits are allowed a ten-second call to let their family know they have arrived.
Recruits that still have a cell phone make the call from their personal phone; others use telephones provided by the Navy

Items you may not bring:
Cigarettes, dip, lighters or any other tobacco products. Large photo albums.
A few photos are permitted, but space is limited
. Material that is pornographic or can be considered questionable.
What can you send someone in boot camp?
- Stationery.
- Stamps.
- Appropriate photos.
- Letters.
- Pencils and pens.
- Toiletries from the boot camp packing list.
- Visa-type gift cards.
- Religious reading.
Can recruits send pictures?
Whether you include a photo in your Letter or not, the most important thing is to write!
Your recruit will appreciate the love and support they receive through out training, and will help keep their confidence and spirits high.
Can you send pictures on sandbox?
If you’re reading this article on your smart phone, simply
hold your finger on the image you’d like to send and then choose “save image”
(the language in your particular phone may vary). Once you have the image saved, simply add it to your next Sandboxx letter and it’ll be on its way to your loved one!

During your U.S. Navy basic training, you will stay in barracks named after important ships in naval history
. Each climate-controlled “ship,” which can house up to 1,300 recruits, features classrooms, a galley and multiple berthing areas.

Yes, it is possible to fail basic training
. You could go through the trouble of leaving your home, job, family and friends and come back a failure. In fact, this happens to about 15% of recruits who join the military every year. Too many recruits I speak to think that it is impossible to fail basic training.
The first three weeks of Navy Boot Camp are clearly the toughest (physically, and stressfully)
. Get through the first three weeks, and you’ll almost assuredly graduate. As with Army and Air Force Basic Training, during the first couple of weeks, you’ll find that no one can seem to do anything right.
Can you send letters while in basic training?
Soldiers in Basic Combat Training will have mail call every day that the US Postal Service delivers mail.

. This is the safest end date to ensure Trainees receive all your letters.
Can you send colored envelopes to boot camp?
Yes, absolutely a recruit may receive an envelope of any color

How do I add pictures to my sandbox?
Simply add a picture by
clicking on “Image” in the toolbar
. You can either choose your own photo or add one from the internet using a URL.
How do you put pictures on a sandbox?
To edit your profile picture, log into the Sandbox. Click on “My Account”, then click on EDIT. Scroll down to the Picture section.
To add a new picture, click “Choose File” and attach the file with your picture

How do I send multiple pictures in a sandbox?
Go to Sandboxx App, write your letter and when adding your photo, use the collage you created to upload onto your recruit’s letter. Confirm the collage fits into the 4×4 photo square. Send your letter!

, at 8 weeks. You progress through: basic conditioning – confidence course – team-building week – hands-on training.
Recruit training, or “boot camp,” will be
