As a reminder,
you no longer need a permit to bring your bicycle on Metro-North trains
. Folding bikes are allowed on all trains and must remain folded. On weekdays, up to four bikes per train are allowed. On weekends, up to eight bikes per train are allowed.
Can you bring a bike in a train?
Only certain passenger cars can accommodate folding bicycles as carry-on baggage
, otherwise they must be checked. Only true folding bicycles (bicycles specifically designed to fold up into a compact assembly) are acceptable.
Can I take my bike on the train Northern?
You can take your bike on any Northern train if there is space
. All trains can accommodate up to two bikes and space is allocated on a first come, first served basis – we can’t reserve space for bicycles. There is no extra charge for bringing your bike.
When can I take my bike on Metro?
You may purchase a special ticket and take your bicycle on board, but not in the rush hours,
07:00 – 09:00 and 16:00 – 18:30
. Your bicycle must not cause a nuisance to other passengers. There are no rush hours on Saturday, Sundays, and national holidays.
Can I take my bike on the Tyne and Wear Metro?
Bikes are currently only allowed on the Metro system between the hours of 10am-3pm, and 7pm-end of service on a weekday
. You cannot take bikes to or through Haymarket, Monument, Central Station or Gateshead.

The Greyhound counts bicycles as oversize luggage. Oversize luggage costs $30 plus tax. Any traveling cyclist needs to bare this in mind. In addition,
