Rotate the adjustable nut clockwise to tighten the clutch rod until the adjustable nut aligns with the hole in the vertical plate
. The nut will move down on the clutch rod threads to shorten the length. Press the adjustable nut into the assembly hole in the vertical plate.
A riding mower belt can come off your mower when
brackets, belt keepers or idler spring are worn or damaged; your bearings are bad in your pulleys or spindle housings; or debris is interfering with the tension of your deck belt
.

Push the belt keepers on the transaxle pulley down and slide the belt over the transaxle pulley. Pull the slack from the back of the tractor (transaxle pulley) and slide the belt on to the stationary and clutch idlers. This will increase the tension in the belt and hold it in place.
the most common cause of the deck belt breaking would be
a idler or mandrel pulley not lined up properly or the bearings going out and making the pulley wobble or the belt is getting rubbed somewhere
. check the pullies on the deck to make sure they turn freely and are not loose and wobbling around.
Power takeoff (PTO) clutches are found on riding lawn mowers. These clutches exist
on the bottom of the mower’s engine assembly
and control the flow of power to the mower’s cutting blades.
If the clutch is damaged,
you may hear it slipping while it tries to engage, or you might hear your PTO engage and then stop right away
, as it is designed for the fuse to fail first if it cannot turn the clutch.
If you increase the tension on your belt, make sure it’s properly seated on the pulleys, before starting to mow again and then have the same problem (
belt coming off the pulleys)
this is a fairly clear sign that the belt has become stretched and needs replacing.
Under ideal conditions, a mower drive belt will last
between three to four years
. If you use the mower quite a bit or if you do not take good care of the machine, it may wear out sooner. Wear and tear often makes it hard to keep the mower belt going for longer than four years.
