Overall it is probably worth a visit if you can spare the time to get there. The landscape is unique and we saw a few thunderstorms cross the area which added to the day. The petrified logs were interesting but seen one or 20 well...
Don’t make the mistake of taking a trip to Sedona for a night or two, three to five days is the time needed to see Sedona, the Grand Canyon and beyond.
Ok, personally I like Sedona way better than the GC! The road through Sedona is gorgeous and I would’ve loved to spend more time there. The Grand Canyon is something you have to see, but unless you are going to dedicate some time hiking, camping, mule-riding etc, you’ll get tired of the rocks pretty fast.

The best time to visit Sedona is from March to May when the temperatures are warm – but not scorching – and the area is in full bloom. Hikers love this season, as desert flowers add a pop of color to the rust-colored trails.

As with any season, Sedona’s beautiful red rocks are always on display. On average, Sedona’s stays about 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix during the day. Nightime lows in the summer average in the cool mid 60s, nearly 25 degrees cooler than the Phoenix average.
Spring is Sedona’s busiest visitor season and it’s easy to see why. With average high temperatures in the mid-60s to low 80s (degrees Fahrenheit) and lows that are refreshingly chilly, it’s perfect weather for Sedona’s outdoor activities like hiking, jeep tours and shopping in Uptown Sedona.
Yes, it IS quite dark on the highway, but it’s still reasonably safe if you drive cautiously and don’t speed. I’m with RedRocks on this one, though – it would be better to stay on the north side of Phoenix, and make the drive in the daytime.
Weather in the Grand Canyon is at its best between April and June, when rainfall averages are low and temperatures have not yet reached their scorching summer highs. The park becomes extremely crowded when school lets out in June, so plan your visit before then, if possible.

What Makes Sedona So Special? The majestic red rock scenery and evergreen vegetation are two reasons for the unique energy of Sedona and its tangible regenerative and inspirational effects. Sedona is also internationally known for the uplifting power of its Vortex meditation sites.
Arizona is famous for its ever-blue skies, and very low humidity which makes even hot and cold days bearable. Sedona is usually 20° F (10° C) cooler than Phoenix and about 15° (7° C) warmer than Flagstaff.
