Rock Pegs are the best tent pegs for hard ground. Make sure you pick up a metal hammer and the rock pegs with the metal T-bar are a bit more robust than the plastic topped ones. They’re a little thinner than the plastic power pegs so they don’t really stay put as well as the chunky plastics on guy lines.
Ultralight backpackers are very fond of materials like aluminium alloys, titanium and carbon fibre for their excellent strength to weight ratios. But when it comes to manufacturing effective tent pegs, though these materials will make them lighter, they won’t necessarily make them ultralight .
Plastic Tent Peg
Plastic tent pegs give great security when used on the correct ground and are particularly good for guyline pegging .
Tent peg types and styles may typically vary in length from 150mm to 490mm , and in thickness from 1.6 mm to 3.2 mm for flat section tent pegs and from 4 mm to 11.2 mm for wire rod tent pegs.
Made to meet or exceed all military specifications for tent pins, each pin is 12′′ (304.8 mm) long, with a diameter of 5/8′′ (15.88 mm).
Definition of tent peg
: a pointed piece of wood or metal that is pushed into the ground to hold the corners of a tent in position .
Make sure you angle your pegs away from your tent to maximise their ability withstand tension . One thing to note is that you don’t want to use too strong a peg that the guy line rips away from the tent in a gust of wind – better to have the peg come loose and be able to ‘reset’ it.
Probably the best innovation in camp set up equipment, screw-in pegs have excellent grip, are easy to insert, and smaller in size . Screw-in pegs need a driver to be inserted, like a battery drill or impact gun, making them much easier to set up.
Use a mallet or hammer to gently tap in the stake . Another tip for using stakes in this type of condition is using more than one at a time. Instead of just having one on each focal point, add two. This will help reinforce those points of interest that may become weak from the loose soil.
Aluminium Pegs
Aluminium tent pegs are very affordable and widely available. On the negative side, tent pegs made from aluminium are more prone to bending and snapping when comparing them to the stronger steel peg. Many people opt for a steel peg if they are going to be stationary for a longer period of time.
Most tents will come with metal pegs as standard but there are many other types for different grounds and conditions . Tent pegs should go into the ground at an angle away from the tent with the bent part facing outwards.
According to the Talmud, Jael engaged in sexual intercourse with Sisera seven times , but because she was attempting to exhaust him in order to kill him, her sin was for Heaven’s sake and therefore praiseworthy. Also according to the Midrash, Sisera had previously conquered every country against which he had fought.
As he lies asleep, exhausted from the battle, Jael takes a tent peg and drives it through his forehead into the ground. She then shows his dead body to Barak, who has come in pursuit of the enemy general (4:21–22).
Aluminium Sand and Snow Pegs do a similar job to the plastic sand pegs mentioned above, the good thing with these is that they all nest together neatly. They are good for anyone needing the holding power of a large sand peg but have limited storage space, such as in a pack or kayak.
