different kind of steroid treatment
for UC because they are designed to provide extended release of the medication directly in the colon.
What is Uceris used for?
This medication is used to
treat a certain bowel condition (ulcerative colitis)
. While budesonide does not cure this condition, it may decrease symptoms such as pain and diarrhea. Budesonide is an anti-inflammatory drug (corticosteroid hormone).
Does UCERIS weaken your immune system?
UCERIS tablets
may weaken your immune system
. Taking medicines that weaken your immune system makes you more likely to get infections. Avoid contact with people who have contagious diseases such as chickenpox or measles while taking UCERIS tablets.
How long should you take UCERIS?
UCERIS tablets are taken
once a day for up to 8 weeks
The recommended dosage of UCERIS tablets is one 9-mg tablet taken once daily in the morning, with or without food, for up to 8 weeks.
How effective is Uceris?
In the first study, UCERIS tablets more than doubled the rate of remission:
17.9% of patients had success
with UCERIS 9 mg vs 7.4% with placebo. In the second study, UCERIS tablets more than tripled the rate of remission: 17.4% of patients had success with UCERIS 9 mg vs 4.5% with placebo.
Does Uceris cause bloating?
They ranged in age from 18-77 years (mean 43), 56% were male, and 75% were Caucasian. The most common adverse reactions were headache, nausea, decreased blood cortisol, upper abdominal pain, fatigue, flatulence, abdominal distension, acne, urinary tract infection, arthralgia, and constipation.

Patients should be advised that UCERIS extended release tablets may cause systemic glucocorticosteroid effects of hypercorticism and adrenal suppression. Patients
should taper slowly from systemic corticosteroids
if transferring to UCERIS extended release tablets [See WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS].
Does UCERIS raise blood sugar?

Can I just stop taking Uceris?
Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor
. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased. Tell your doctor if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse.
