Yes, it is possible to fail basic training
. You could go through the trouble of leaving your home, job, family and friends and come back a failure. In fact, this happens to about 15% of recruits who join the military every year. Too many recruits I speak to think that it is impossible to fail basic training.
The first three weeks of Navy Boot Camp are clearly the toughest (physically, and stressfully)
. Get through the first three weeks, and you’ll almost assuredly graduate. As with Army and Air Force Basic Training, during the first couple of weeks, you’ll find that no one can seem to do anything right.
Can I leave during bootcamp?
After you arrive at boot camp, your fate still isn’t sealed. Even though you’re now on active duty,
Army command can let you go without penalty during your first 180 days of service
. The official term for this is entry-level separation. Boot camp is the best time because the Army has just started training you.

Enlisted recruits head off to
Boot Camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center north of Chicago, Illinois

After you attend Boot Camp, you’ll report to Fort Sam Houston, TX, to attend “A” school for
14 weeks
. Here, you’ll develop a working knowledge of basic principles and techniques of patient care and first aid procedures in preparation for your first assignment.
If you decide to enlist,
you will report to a military entrance processing station (MEPS)
. You’ll spend a day or two completing pre-enlistment steps. These include taking the ASVAB, having a physical exam, meeting with a career counselor, and if you’re accepted, taking the oath of enlistment.

At RTC Great Lakes, all recruits are allowed a ten-second call to let their family know they have arrived.
Recruits that still have a cell phone make the call from their personal phone; others use telephones provided by the Navy

In basic training, swimming is not an option. All boot-camp recruits are measured by performing push-ups, curl-ups (sit-ups) and running
11⁄2 miles
. Event consists of running 1.5 miles as quickly as possible. Any combination of running or walking is allowed to complete event.

Will I Be Paid in Boot Camp?
Yes, your pay starts the day you get to boot camp
. Most new enlisted Sailors start out at the E-1 pay grade, but there are exceptions. You may also be eligible for additional bonuses and allowances.
Navy recruits who fail to meet the requirement will have 48 hours to retest
. If they fail a second time, they will be sent home. They may be able to reapply with a waiver from Navy Recruiting Command.
Recruits receive pay while training at the grade of E-1 and the rank of seaman recruit. As of 2021, this rank earns
$1,785 per month
, as shown on the Navy pay calculator. Pay incrementally increases with promotion and years of service.
Specific underway schedules can vary widely. Normally ships will go to sea for 10 days to 2 weeks each month for training operations in preparation for deployment. Extended operations away from home port can last up to 6 to 9 months, and ships typically deploy
once every 18-24 months

Is boot camp 7 days a week?
Basic Combat Training or Boot Camp is a
