When it comes to rain and the suns blistering UV rays, you need to service your tent every

6 to 12 months

to ensure greater protection. By service, I mean a simple task in which you can do at home or at camp.

How waterproof Should a tent be?

General consensus is that

1000mm rating is waterproof

but tent fabrics at the lower end of this range are usually made with a focus on lightweight performance rather than longevity. 1500mm is generally accepted as a good standard for hiking tents whilst, with proper storage and care, providing a longer usable lifetime.

How often do you need to seal a tent?

As a rule of thumb if you’re using your tent on average for 2 or 3 weeks a year then proofing it

every couple of years

should make sure it maintains it’s waterproofness. If you’re willing to play it by ear, just wait until it starts to leak, then do it!

How long will a tent last outside?
