– Recruit Training Command (RTC), the Navy’s enlisted boot camp, has extended the duration of its basic military training (BMT) program from eight to
10 weeks
.
Recruit training, or “boot camp,” will be
approximately seven weeks
long. The goal of this training is to transform you from a civilian into a Sailor with all of the skills necessary to perform in the fleet.
By 1944 Great Lakes began to integrate training and all training was integrated by
mid-1945
. The Golden Thirteen were commissioned in March 1944 after training at Great Lakes. Four million served on active duty in the Navy during World War II. Over one million Sailors were trained at Great Lakes.
The Navy, Army, and Marines have recruits drop out at roughly the same rate as each other, between 11 and 14 percent annually
. Contrary to what many think, the goal of officers in basic training isn’t just to push recruits to drop out.
Petty Officer Second Class

As a petty officer second class, your level of authority will not change, but you will be expected to manage more resources and larger work groups or watch sections. In addition as a petty officer, you will be responsible for and to your subordinates.

,” said Lt. Cmdr. Katy Bock, military training director, Recruit Training Command. “Every recruit now graduates with more tools and skills to make them more effective and combat-ready Sailors.”
You’ll get up at
5 a.m.
every single day. Waking up in the morning is an adjustment process that’s the same for every single basic training class. When you first arrive, the drill instructors require a lot of noise, yelling and jostling to get everyone out of the rack.
The first three weeks of Navy Boot Camp are clearly the toughest (physically, and stressfully)
. Get through the first three weeks, and you’ll almost assuredly graduate. As with Army and Air Force Basic Training, during the first couple of weeks, you’ll find that no one can seem to do anything right.
U.S. Navy basic training is
an intense, eight-week program where recruits endure physical training and must develop emotional endurance
. Also, recruits attend classes where they engage with relevant coursework and also receive practical training that allows hands-on experience and prepares them for real-life scenarios.
Like the Air Force, the Navy has only
one
location for boot camp: The Great Lakes Naval Training Center, which is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan, halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee.
The Navy offers a very few
two year and three year
contracts, where the recruit spends two or three years on active duty, followed by six years in the Active Reserves. The other services offer four, five, and six year enlistment options (The Air Force only offers four and six year enlistments).
Navy boot camp graduation happens on the last day of your
eight-week
training from Navy Boot Camp. For you to graduate, you must complete all physical training requirements such as the minimum number of push-ups, sit-ups and running a mile and a half in the maximum time allowed.
Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes (RTC Great Lakes)
, is a unit within the United States Navy primarily responsible for conducting the initial orientation and indoctrination of incoming recruits, also known as boot camp and recruit training, or RTC. It is part of Naval Service Training Command.
How long is Bud S?
You’re basically guaranteed to get sandy at BUD/S or Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training, which lasts
24 weeks
. BUD/S training takes place at the Naval Amphibious Base in Coronado, California.
C school is
more indepth training for the chosen job she has
. All go to a school but c school specializes in say a mechanic working on a plane, well there is more than one type of plane/jet the Navy flies, so once he is at his command he would probably go to C school to train for a specific plane/jet he is working on.
Navy recruits who fail to meet the requirement will have 48 hours to retest
. If they fail a second time, they will be sent home. They may be able to reapply with a waiver from Navy Recruiting Command.
Class “F” schools
provide team training to officer and enlisted fleet personnel who normally are members of ships’ companies
. They also provide refresher training, including operator and technical courses of short duration to meet the needs of a fleet or type commander.

Master chief petty officer
(MCPO) is an enlisted rank in some navies. It is the ninth (just below the rank of MCPON) enlisted rank (with pay grade E-9) in the United States Navy and United States Coast Guard, just above Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO).
If a sailor hits the 12-year mark before meeting those requirements, they wear red stripes
. Sailors who have qualified for the gold stripes but are later convicted by court-martial or nonjudicial punishment (NJP) must also switch to red.
How many guests per recruit are allowed to attend the graduation ceremony? A. ALL GUESTS, including Active Duty/Retired Military Personnel and those ages 3 and older must be on the access list. Each recruit may invite
two guests (max, no exceptions)
to attend in person.
Except for the Navy, women do not have to get their hair cut
. However, when in uniform (which is all the time in basic training), women must wear their hair in such a way that the hair does not protrude past the bottom of the collar, and is not below the eyebrows.

Yes, your pay starts the day you get to boot camp
. Most new enlisted Sailors start out at the E-1 pay grade, but there are exceptions. You may also be eligible for additional bonuses and allowances.
Do Sailors Get Leave After Navy Boot Camp? After Navy boot-camp graduation,
sailors will not be given leave and are required to travel to their next training location, A School
. There are many locations for Navy A School, and not all sailors will go to the same school.
Because Navy SEALs perform much of their work in and near bodies of water,
they need to avoid drowning or sinking in difficult conditions
. The drown proofing test takes place in a nine-foot-deep pool, with the trainee’s hands tied and feet bound.
There are no cell phones allowed in Basic Training
. This is a consistent rule for all of the military branches: Do not expect your service member to be able to call you, text you, or receive your messages when they are in Basic Training.
