and usually does not require an overnight stay in the hospital. However, in certain circumstances, such as if your doctor is concerned about your reaction to anesthesia, an overnight stay may be required.
How long does pain last after a hysteroscopy?
Report fever, severe abdominal pain, or heavy vaginal bleeding or discharge. You may have gas in the digestive tract and pains from the gas given during the procedure. This can last for
about 24 hours
. You may also feel pain in your upper belly and shoulder.
How long does it take to recover from a hysteroscopy?
The procedure takes less than an hour and usually has no complications. Recovery happens
within 2-3 days but can be longer according
to the health of the patient. After the procedure, expect a bit of fatigue due to the blood loss. Women may also feel cramping and back pain for a few days.
Do and don’ts after hysteroscopy?

It’s normal to have some vaginal bleeding and cramping for a few days after the procedure, but you should report any severe pain, heavy bleeding, discharge or fever to us.

Is a hysteroscopy painful?
Some women feel no or only mild pain during a hysteroscopy
, but for others the pain can be severe. If you find it too uncomfortable, tell the doctor or nurse. They can stop the procedure at any time.

– no tampons, no douching, no intercourse.
How bad is a hysteroscopy?
Possible risks with hysteroscopy include
pain, feeling faint or sick, bleeding, infection and rarely uterine perforation
(damage to the wall of the uterus). The risk of uterine perforation is lower during OPH than during hysteroscopy under general anaesthesia.

Most women feel better within the first week following surgery; however, do not lift, push or pull any heavy objects for a couple of weeks. Do not resume sexual intercourse or douche until your doctor says it is OK. Full recovery takes

Your doctor or nurse will discuss their findings with you before you leave, although it may take a few weeks to get the results of

. You can usually return to your normal activities later the same day or the following day if no anaesthetic or just a local anaesthetic was used.

. If you are being treated for fibroids or polyps, a special hysteroscope with an electrical loop, known as a resectascope will be used to remove them. If you have a general anaesthetic, you will be asleep during the entire procedure.
Is it worth getting a hysteroscopy?
While there is no consensus of opinion or practice yet among reproductive endocrinologists, most agree that a preliminary non-invasive test such as HSN should be performed first. If an abnormality is identified, then hysteroscopy is indicated.
