Which Is Better 8X42 Or 10X50 Binoculars? Overall for astronomy, 10x is better than 8x. (I believe there’s a general consensus on that.) If the weight difference is significant, then obviously for hiking and so on, lighter weight is better. That would mean that perhaps you should also consider 10×42, as that size is lighter
