Cell membranes are comprised of a bilayer of phospholipids in which the “hydrophilic” (attracted to water) heads are on the outer and inner surfaces of the membrane, and the “hydrophobic” (repelled by water) tails of the molecules form the inner core of the membrane. Is the cell membrane hydrophilic?
