Where Is Fort Erie? Fort Erie, town, regional municipality of Niagara, southeastern Ontario, Canada. It lies along Lake Erie and the Niagara River and is linked to Buffalo, New York, by the International Railway and Peace bridges. The fort, built by the British in 1764, was captured by American troops during the War of 1812.
