What Are Summer Assignments? Many AP and IB courses give incoming students an assignment to complete over the summer. Usually due sometime within the first 2 weeks of school, assignments can include reading books or articles, writing an essay, visiting museums, or creating projects. Assignments can take anywhere from 1 hour to days to complete.
