Language Requirement
All
midshipmen majoring in Economics, English, History, or Political Science
are required to take or validate four semesters of a foreign language offered at the Naval Academy, or the equivalent.

Naval Academy students are midshipmen on active duty in the U.S. Navy. They attend the academy for

What degree do you get from Annapolis?
The academic program grants
a Bachelor of Science degree
with a curriculum that grades midshipmen's performance upon a broad academic program, military leadership performance, and mandatory participation in competitive athletics. Midshipmen are required to adhere to the academy's Honor Concept.
- Attend a summer seminar or stem program.
- Do a campus visit and tour.
- Get really good grades, SAT / ACT scores, and rank highly in your class.
- Participate in athletics and community service, and demonstrate leadership qualities.
- Fill out a preliminary application.
While the majority of midshipmen will choose their majors freely, the needs of the Naval Service take precedence. For the Naval Academy Class of 2013 and beyond, at least 65% of those graduates commissioned into the U.S. Navy must complete academic majors in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics disciplines.

Dating at
the Naval Academy is not like dating at other universities
. There are several obstacles including that there are three male midshipmen for every female, all romantic acts are no-nos on the academy yard and everyone is undergoing intense academic and physical training to become a naval officer.
In all the branches' basic training programs, bedtime is
usually 2100, or 9 p.m.
, except during times of special events, such as night exercises. In basic training, lights out means go to sleep. It does not mean talk to your buddies, study or write a letter home.
Navy basic training is
seven weeks
, plus one week at the beginning called processing week, which isn't officially part of basic training. Because you still will have drill instructors yelling at you and telling you what to do, it might as well be, though.
Plebe Summer is the summer training program which is required of
all incoming freshmen to the
United States Naval Academy. The program lasts approximately 7 weeks and consists of rigorous physical and mental training. The stated purpose of Plebe Summer according to the Academy is to “turn civilians into midshipmen”.
All midshipmen are required to participate
in these programs, either at the varsity, intramural or club level. Athletics play a major role in how we accomplish our mission. We challenge midshipmen physically so that when they graduate they will be prepared to successfully lead in combat.
