What colleges have sailing teams? Recruiting process
Most schools recruit sailors for “early decision;” start in the summer after your HS sophomore year or early in your junior year
. Visit the schools in the spring of your junior year. Many team members are not recruited (walk-ons) and some have very little sailing experience.
Presently there are five doublehanded dinghies in college sailing:
FJs, 420s, Fireflies, Techs, and Larks
. Each boat is unique and teaches different skill sets that are all valuable to becoming a well rounded and successful sailor.
There Are No Scholarships in College Sailing
Procedural Rule 12f states: Financial Assistance – No student-athlete shall receive financial assistance to attend college based upon sailing ability.
The Harvard University sailing team
is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States.
This sport is governed by the rules of US Sailing, a national organization. Sailing is a
fall and spring sport
. Students can choose fall or spring or both.
The MIT Varsity Sailing Team
is among the top collegiate sailing programs in the country and a proud part of the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association. The team boasts a roster of approximately 40 undergraduates from experienced skippers to people brand new to the sport.

claimed the 2022 ICSA Open Dinghy National Championship by a one-point margin on Sunday on Lake Pontchartrain. The Green Wave held off the Yale Bulldogs in the final race by posting a fourth-place finish to secure the title.
But Fordham, the college of Vince Lombardi, Vin Scully and Wellington Mara, has lately become a destination for those willing to venture offshore.

The UCSD sailing team
is a student-run sports club that exists to represent the school in college regattas throughout the state and across the country, as well as to introduce students to what we believe is the greatest sport in the world: sailboat racing.
A sailing team’s name can differ among boat types. Normally they are called
a crew
, specifically on crew boats where the members are very close together and are forced to work as a team more than any other boat.
Sailing is an active high school sport
in both the spring and fall seasons, running March-May and September-November respectively.
The MIT Rowing Club (MITRC) is a co-ed club team open to all affiliates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
who have an interest in complementing their academic experience at the world’s finest university with a dedication to the greatest sport on earth!

, which provides water engineering services. (The company’s founder, Glenn Reynolds, had a son who sailed in a program run by Vandemoer’s wife, Molly O’Bryan Vandemoer.) He’s also still a sailing coach.
Vandemoer, who
coached sailing at Stanford for 11 years
, took a plea deal in a vast college admissions scheme that federal agents uncovered in 2019, calling it Operation Varsity Blues.
Dartmouth
men’s soccer
is the school’s premier team, taking home six titles in a very competitive Ivy sport. That team also won eight games in eight NCAA Tournament appearances, tied for second-best among all non-squash teams in the study.
Today’s more inclusive team identity is “The Big Green,”
named for the College’s athletic uniforms on which green has been a primary color since the nineteenth century
