Peering into his eyes, Arthur asks, “Have we met?” and he snaps, “Of course not!” Merlin unveils his old man again in Season 4’s “The Wicked Day” and Season 5’s “A Lesson in Vengeance.” Much like his telekenisis, he unveils this spell when he must save a friend in need — usually Arthur or Gwen.

Back in Camelot, Merlin shows the egg to Gaius, though Gaius is still not impressed with Merlin’s actions. Merlin takes the egg to Kilgarrah out in the forest and places it on a tree stump . Kilgarrah tells him that the egg is still alive, but that only Dragonlords can call dragons into the world by giving them a name.
Peacemaker season 1 was established as following Peacemaker redefining himself after Rick Flag’s The Suicide Squad death and pushing back against his father. The fact that he was able to stand up to his father and ultimately kills White Dragon is important.
In series 4, Uther is wounded during an assassination attempt on Arthur. Merlin tries to heal him but due to Morgana’s meddling, the spell instead kills him. In the television series Camelot, Uther is poisoned by his daughter Morgana in the first episode.
Gwen never wears it at any point in the series. This episode marks Morgana’s first attempt on Uther’s life. Many follow in series 3 and in series 4, she finally succeeds killing him (The Wicked Day).
The decision to end the show with Arthur’s death
“What we decided to do was to tell the legend how it was in many ways,” Murphy says. “And I suppose we’re very sad that Arthur had to die, [but] that is a massive part of the legend.” This was the reason for the final scene, where we see Merlin in the present day.
Morgana learns of Merlin being the mage only in the 3rd to last episode (Season 5, Episode 11, The Drawing of the Dark) . Mordred tells her at the end of that episode who Emrys is (aka Merlin).
It’s one of the reasons why Kilgharrah always seems so wise, like he actually KNOWS what’s going to happen. The Cayleach said to Morgana that Emrys “was her destiny and her doom”, implying that these things can be known. Evil as she was, her journey wasn’t finished yet, and that’s why I think that Aithusa saved her.
Richard Wilson burst a blood vessel in his left eye as is visible in various scenes throughout this episode.
Meteor was the only son of Merlin, the celebrated alchemist and advisor to King Arthur and mentor to William the Conqueror, the first Norman King of England. Meteor was born 23, March AD 1066. His namesake was derived from the occurrence of a prodigious shooting star seen in the sky on the night of his birth.
It is unknown whether Merlin and Arthur fulfilled their destiny . Though Arthur’s death would appear to have averted it, Kilgharrah told Merlin that all that he had dreamt of building had come to pass.
As Merlin is the last Dragonlord, he opens the egg by naming the new Dragon Aithusa.
