i.m. (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan) is the only FDA-approved PSGAG equine joint prescription available. It is recommended for
intramuscular treatment of non-infectious degenerative and/
or traumatic joint dysfunction and associated lameness of the carpal and hock joints in horses.

How does Adequan work in horses?
Adequan is incorporated directly into the cartilage where
it helps with the compression capabilities of the joint
. It has been shown to help heal and aid in the long term health of articular cartilage. Legend is pure Hyaluronic Acid that is utilized by the synovial cells that line the joint capsule.
What are the side effects of Adequan?
When administered by a licensed veterinarian, Adequan has very few side effects. The most commonly reported side effects were
mild pain or swelling at the injection site, diarrhea, and delayed blood clotting
that did not require treatment.
How long does Adequan take to work?
Following IM administration, Adequan reaches synovial tissue
within 2 hours
, and persists in the joint for at least 72 hours. Significant improvement has been shown after 4 weeks of treatment, but studies have not evaluated efficacy before this time point.
How often should I give my horse adequan?
