What is a submission type?
Four submission types are available to instructors when creating assignments to allow evaluation of many different tasks. File submission:
learners upload and submit a file to the assignment
. Text submission: learners post text, image, or a link to their work in a text box within the assignment.

What does no submission type mean on canvas?
No Submission is
when you do not want students to submit an assignment in Canvas
. This assignment type can be used to create extra columns in the Gradebook, or when you want to create an assignment that involves multiple scores.
How do I know if my canvas is submission?
- Open Grades. In Course Navigation, click the Grades link.
- Select Assignment. Click the assignment name.
- View Submission Details. View the submission confirmation for submitted assignments.
Can a student delete a submission on canvas?
Once a file has been
successfully submitted to an assignments, you can’t delete it
. However, if you have the ability to make another submission, re-submit the file and make sure to also contact your instructor and let them know that you are re-submitting a file to the assignment.
Can you resubmit on canvas?
Canvas always allows students to submit and resubmit assignments even after the due date
. However, if students submit after the due date, assignments are marked late in SpeedGrader and the Gradebook. Students only see their last submission but instructors can view all submissions.
What is file submission?
The
file upload allows you to submit to your assignment by directly loading the file from your device
. Users whose files are saved in a file type that is not accepted by Turnitin will need to use a word processing program to save the file as one of the accepted types.

Why does canvas say not submitted?
If the Submitting section says “No Submission” or “On Paper”,
your professor wants you to turn in the assignment in class or it’s an in-class assignment (e.g. an exam)
. The assignment may also have information on the types of files you can upload (4) and when the assignment submission is available from and to (5).
How do you change submissions on canvas?
To change the submission type on an assignment,
go to the “Assignments” tab and click the name of the assignment you want to edit
. Once in the Assignment screen, click the Edit button. Then, scroll down to see a drop-‐down menu of submission types.
Can you see submission history on canvas?
The answer is, yes,
your instructor will be able to view your past submissions
. From the student side, you are only able to see the most recent submission for any given assignment.
Can teachers see failed submissions on canvas?
Instructors can
view the status of a student’s assignment submission
in the Canvas Gradebook. The score column displays a submission icon for successful uploads, an Upload Failed icon for failed uploads, and an Uploading icon for queued submissions.
Can teachers see what time you submit on canvas?
Submitting and resubmitting assignments in Canvas
Assignments submitted after the Due Date (including any resubmissions of the assignment) are
automatically marked as late
. All submissions and resubmissions can be viewed by the instructor and include date/time stamps.
