What is the minimum grade to pass the extended essay?
All CAS requirements have been met. Grades A (highest) to E (lowest) have been awarded for both theory of knowledge and an extended essay, with a grade of

in one of them. There is no grade 1 in any subject. There is no grade 2 at higher level.
What happens if you fail the EE?
A student who fails to submit an extended essay
will not be awarded a diploma
. The EE is an essay, not a report or a descriptive or narrative essay. It must have a HYPOTHESIS (or point of view) that is effectively argued or defended. Topics are usually far too broad.

What makes a good EE?
Your EE needs a
clear introduction
(which should be one to two double-spaced pages), research question/focus (i.e., what you’re investigating), a body, and a conclusion (about one double-spaced page). An essay with unclear organization will be graded poorly. The body of your EE should make up the bulk of the essay.
How many hours should I spend on my EE?
Students are expected to spend
approximately 40 hours
on research and writing of the EE. EE supervisors are expected to spend no more than three (3) to five (5) hours advising student on their essays.
What happens if you fail Tok?
No diploma is awarded
if a candidate fails to submit either the TOK essay or TOK presentation, or receives grade E for either the extended essay or theory of knowledge.
How do I pass Ibdp?
In general, in order to receive the IB Diploma, a student will have to
score at least a 4 in each subject, or 24 points or more in total
. The full criteria for passing the IB DP are set out below and students need to be aware that a score of 24 points will not always guarantee a pass.

What happens if you get a 3 in IB?
There is a grade 1 earned in any subject/level. A score of 2 has been earned three or more times (HL or SL). A score of 3
or lower has been earned four or more times (HL or SL)
. Candidate has gained fewer than 12 points on HL subjects (for candidates who register for four HL subjects, the three highest grades count).
Can you redo your EE?
A
new Extended Essay can be registered in the same
or in a different Diploma subject. You can also retake Theory of Knowledge, but must be aware you cannot carry over marks from the TOK essay, as the prompts change year-to-year and it is considered an examined compenent.
