. This is achieved through the use of the computer's webcam. When starting the exam/test session, a student is required to position their webcam in such a way that it fully captures their face, including eyes.

. Instructors will be prompted to select whether they want to share their entire desktop, a specific application window, or an individual browser tab.
Does tophat record your voice?
All students require the
Proctorio Google Chrome extension
in order to take a remotely monitored test in Top Hat. If an instructor has enabled video and/or audio recording, students will also need a working webcam and/or microphone. Instructors also have the ability to randomize question order for remote tests.
Can you take a tophat exam on your phone?
Top Hat Test allows
you to easily take a test using your laptop, smartphone, or tablet
. If you navigate away from the test or interact with other applications you will be locked out of the test and will only be able to continue with the test if your professor unlocks you.
How do I activate my top hat account?
- Login to Top Hat at go.osu.edu/tophat .
- Locate the course on your Top Hat home page, click Settings.
- The General Settings tab will open. Under Course Availability, select the button next to Available.
- Select Save Changes.

If you go against Proctorio rules set by your instructor, such as navigating away from the quiz, it is possible to be kicked out of the exam
