Are dogs allowed in Pfeiffer Big Sur?

Leashed dogs are welcome to explore paved roads, developed campgrounds, and day use areas
. They are not allowed on any State Park trails. Many of the campsites are located along the Big Sur River. There is a $10 day use fee, per car.
Are dogs allowed at Big Sur River Gorge?
No permit is required to hike in the Big Sur River Gorge but an entrance fee ($10 day use fee or $35 to $50 camping fee) is required to access the trailheads in Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park (all prices as of 2016).

The cove that McWay Falls drops into is completely off limits. Those caught trespassing will get a citation and/or arrested.

Is Carmel by the Sea dog friendly?
Dogs are allowed off-leash on Carmel beach, however they must be under the voice control of their owners
. Canine visitors at Carmel beach can romp along the surf and frolic with one another on the sand which is a highlight to most trips to Carmel-by-the-Sea.
Is Sur dog friendly?
Most Big Sur state parks aren’t especially dog-friendly
; however leashed dogs are allowed in “developed areas” (i.e.. parking lots, roads, day-use areas and campgrounds) at Andrew Molera, Limekiln and Pfeiffer Big Sur state parks (the latter of which has some lovely road walks through the redwoods).
Can you take dogs to Point Lobos?
Dogs are not allowed inside Point Lobos, even if they are left in your vehicle
. Exception: service animals individually trained to perform tasks for persons who have qualifying disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Campfires, barbecues, and camping stoves are prohibited.
Can dogs go to Pfeiffer beach?

. Be sure to pack all the essentials, as there are no amenities here. This should include water to share with your adventure pup, and clean-up bags.

Is Garrapata open?
Most of Garrapata State Park has been closed since the 2016 Soberanes Fire
. The first 1.25 miles of the Soberanes Canyon Trail has been re-opened, but rest of the trail and the Rocky Ridge Trail are closed indefinitely.
How do I get to Pfeiffer Beach?
The easiest way to locate it is to
look for mile marker 45.64, which is at the turn, just across from a sign that says “Narrow Road.”
After you get onto Sycamore Canyon Road, you’ll see a sign that says Pfeiffer Beach. The beach is about two miles down the road.

The entirety of the Pine Ridge Trail is open effective April 13, 2021
. The Pine Ridge Trail is once again open to the public after being closed for five years due to the human-caused 2016 Soberanes Fire and damage inflicted by the winter storms of 2017.
Is Ventana Wilderness open?
Most of the Ventana Wilderness is now open
, although the western Pine Ridge Trail, Terrace Creek Trail & spurs remain closed (see attached map).
Where is Garrapata Beach?
Garrapata Beach at Garrapata State Park is located
along the northern Big Sur coastline about ten miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA
. The waterfront of the park is four miles long, but the only sandy beach is at the south end. Garrapata Beach has two parking areas along the shoulder of Highway 1.
Where do you park at McWay Falls?
The best place to get to McWay Falls is from Falls Trail just past the entrance to
Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park
. You’ll pay a day use fee to park here, but the Falls Trail goes under Pacific Coast Highway via a tunnel, making it a safer option than jockeying for a parking spot along busy Highway 1.
