The dots are actually white blood cells moving along the fine blood vessels (capillaries) in front of the retina at the back of the eye. This experience is called the ‘blue field entoptic phenomenon’ because it’s especially noticeable
when looking into bright blue light
, such as a cloudless sky.
Why can I see microscopic things in my eyes?

Floaters

Can you see bacteria in your eye?
The eye’s the limit (except in one case).

Can you see your own cells in your eyes?
Although these cells are always there,
you ordinarily don’t see them unless you’re gazing at a deep blue sky
. White blood cells are barely big enough to move through a capillary, while red cells are smaller. So a traffic jam of red cells forms behind each white cell.
Why do I see squiggly lines?
Causes. Most floaters are
flecks of collagen that
come from the gel-like substance in the back of the eye called the vitreous. As you get older, these collagen fibers shrink and clump together. The floaters are actually the shadows they cast on your retina.
