In the Mississippi River and its tributaries, carps can displace native species by crowding out native species and outcompeting native species for food. They are also a human health hazard:

Do carp have teeth in their throat?
Carp (cyprinids) have special types of teeth called pharyngeal teeth which are located at the very back of their throats
. All species of carp and suckers possess these teeth but are otherwise completely toothless in the frontal area of their mouths.
What do I do if I catch a carp?
Immediately contact the appropriate agency personnel for the state you are in
. If an email address is provided, email a photograph of the fish in question as well as call. If state personnel would like to examine the fish, put it on ice or place in a plastic bag. Do NOT keep a live Asian carp in your possession.
Why is it hard to catch carp?

Can I eat carp?
If properly prepared, carp are good to eat
. The meat is pink and mild-flavored similar to Tilapia. As with all fish, where it is caught, and how it is handled and prepared is a big factor in taste and flavor. Carp are considered a rough fish, which means they have thick scales and skin, and a lot of bones.
Do carps like peanut butter?
Some anglers were not bothering to prepare the bait correctly and there were some very large fish that died.
Carp can digest peanuts as they do tigers and just pass them straight through the gut.

How do you keep carp calm?
By using either your hands or a wet sling/mat,
gently place something dark over the fish’s eyes
. The darkness will calm the fish down and stop it from flapping. Make sure you consistently keep the fish wet whilst it’s on the mat, this will also help to stop the carp from misbehaving.
