How do you reshape hard plastic?

A common and safe method of reshaping ABS plastic is to use

boiling water

, which reduces risks involved with accidentally overheating ABS. Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit at which point ABS becomes soft and rubbery but will not burn.

Is it possible to Unwarp plastic?

The Hot Water/Cold Water trick should work on most types of pliable plastic. In fact,

if the plastic was soft enough to get bent out of shape in the first place, it’s soft enough to be bent back into place

.

How do you flatten warped acrylic?

  1. Find a flat, heat-proof surface.
  2. Put your warped acrylic on the work surface.
  3. Cover your arcylic with a heat-proof teflon sheet or similar (I bet a silicone baking mat would work)

PVC starts to decompose at 140

o

C so you want to put a safety thermostat that will prevent the temperature from going over that. You will need to get up around

100

to get it soften enough to bend without kinking but the exact temperature will vary with the materials thickness and polymer composition.

How do you reform plastic?

Just

place the plastic in a heat-proof container and melt it in the oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit

. Open some nearby windows and turn on your oven’s fan while the plastic melts to get rid of any toxic fumes. You can also melt plastic using a heat gun.
