Caring for Kånken
We recommend soaking your Kånken in lukewarm water before you start using it, or gently rub the surface with a soft brush . Hang up to air-dry completely before filling it with fun stuff and strapping it on your back. Whatever you do, do not put your Kånken in the washing machine.

Yes, until it won’t . The side pockets are not stretchable. If the Kanken is stuffed, the 24 won’t fit. That’s why we bought the Kanken 20L + the Hydro 24 oz.
Wash it with the fabric softener, and then dry it with something in the dryer . Tennis balls, or a clean pair of shoes, something to beat it as it tumbles, but don’t break the dryer. Maybe some baseballs inside the bag, and tennis balls outside the bag?? No heat, just tumble it.
We do not recommend ironing on patches , as the adhesive does not always stick very well to the Vinylon F fabric.
Is the Fjällräven Kånken comfortable? The built in straps can easily hurt when you carry a heavy load , but if you spend the extra €20 for the shoulder pads it is as comfortable as can be.
What happens if you put a Kanken in the washing machine? If you put a Kanken in the washing machine, it could damage or discolor the material . Never wash one in a washing machine. Instead, fill a large bowl with lukewarm water and mix in a few drops mild detergent.

Genuine Kånkens have double-stitched seams that are straight , use YKK zips with the Fjällräven logo on one side and the Fox logo on the other, and product tags are made from thick card that show the bag colour and barcode.
The Klunken (pronounced ”Kloonk-en”) Bottles are the result of Primus’ collaboration with Fjällräven to answer a basic and recurring need – a water bottle that fits perfectly in the side pocket of beloved Kånken backpacks.
Answer: It depends what size water bottle you use. I have found that the 8.45oz/250ml VOSS water bottle fits perfectly in the side pocket of the mini!

Would a 32oz HydroFlask fit? Answer: Yes, it holds my daughter’s 32 oz Hydro Flask, but it’s tight and protrudes into the inside of the backpack . So if the inside is completely full and tight, it may be hard to get the Hydro Flask into the pocket.
The Kanken Mini is perfect for me as a small everyday purse bag. Here’s what I carry with me: I can hold my iPad (9.7′′), a water bottle (17 oz.), sunglasses in a hard case, pen pouch, small pouch (for lip balm, external storage, remote), wallet, and headphones.

Repeatedly roll and unroll the bag or jacket. Roll it up in plastic and let the neighbor kids jump on it in the driveway. Rub the surface with fine grain sandpaper to rough up the look and soften the finish.
Place patches where desired on backpack. To apply each patch individually, layer pressing cloth between the patch and iron. Press down on patch for 30 seconds, covering with heat evenly.
