Use the
clean eraser end of
a pencil to gently tuck the poking wire into a more comfortable position. You may safely snip the offending wire, yourself, with small wire clippers or nail clippers. Mold some orthodontic wax into the shape that will cover the protruding wire and protect your mouth.
What to do if your braces wire moves?
When your braces wire bends, the
loose bands can’t pull teeth into position
. If you notice any changes with the wire being loose, bent or broken,make an appointment with your Orthodontist straight away. It’s better to have it checked out than do nothing for weeks and find out the wire has compromised your treatment.
Why does my braces wire moved?
There are 2 reasons as to why a wire may be long: it
has shifted or the last tooth has moved forward as a normal part of space closure
. If the wire has shifted, it will be short on one side of your mouth and long on the other. Try to shift the wire back. Otherwise, you may try placing wax over the wire.
How do you put the wire back in your braces?
Using
tweezers you can flex the wire and slide it back into
the bracket. If you cannot replace, try to push sticking wire down with a pencil eraser to tuck the wire under the bracket or away from your cheek. Lastly, you can try to place wax on the wire to keep it from poking.
Is it bad if the wire comes out of your braces?
We use rubber elastic bands over the brackets to help keep the wire in place – but if one comes off,
it’s okay, your treatment will not be interrupted
! The brackets are crimped around the wire, so the rubber bands act as an added precaution. If the wire is getting loose, push back in place with a clean tweezer.
Is it normal for braces to move?
Don’t worry – this is all part of the natural settling process.
Some level of moving is normal
and may even result in better bite alignment than when the braces were on.

during braces or Invisalign is possible! Switching to a new orthodontist can sound overwhelming!
Why did my orthodontist put a thicker wire on?
Stage two is when your braces start to fix the gaps between your teeth. Because this
requires more force
, your wire will start to become thicker. This will keep your teeth upright and straight so they don’t move backwards or into any other awkward position.
Why do my teeth look worse with braces?
During
the process of alignment
, especially during the first 6 months, you may notice that things look worse before they look better. Here’s why: Although your teeth may be crooked or spaced out when you start treatment, they have usually drifted into a position where they are stable and functional.
Do braces make your lips bigger?

due to the extra width created between your teeth and lips

Why are my teeth not moving with braces?
The most common reason as to why braces have a hard time closing some gaps is because of
the size, shape, or position of the teeth
. A tooth may be too small to properly fill a space between two normally sized teeth. In this circumstance, it’s recommended that the tooth is resized and reshaped in order to fill the gap.
