One of the more common complaints about orthodontic bands is that

. Because the dental cement is not meant to be permanent, any extreme pressure placed on a molar can cause the cement to crack and break loose.
How do orthodontists take off molar bands?
Next your orthodontist will focus on the wires that span across the teeth through the various brackets that are in place.

What do I do if my molar band comes off?

. Please call the office the next business day for an appointment. It is normal for a space to open up between the upper front teeth (it will soon close up).

. You can sterilize metal tweezers by boiling them or soaking them in rubbing alcohol. A wire ligature can be removed with the sterile tweezers.

Sensitive teeth and jaws
– It’s possible for the teeth and jaws to be a little achy for a day or two when you first start wearing rubber bands. This is a good sign and means they’re working. Any discomfort will be extremely minor. If necessary, you can take an over-the-counter pain reliever, like Tylenol.
