. There is no rule saying how you have to use a stand up paddleboard. Use it in whatever way you are comfortable with.
Should you wear a life jacket when paddle boarding?
Each paddler 13 years of age or older must have a USCG-approved Type I, II, III, or appropriate Type V (see below) life jacket
. It doesn’t have to be worn, although that’s certainly the wisest plan, and one which we strongly recommend. A child 12-years old or younger must wear their USCG-approved life jacket.
Can you paddle board on the river Avon?
The River Avon offers a great environment for paddlecraft
. Based on the river grading scheme, when the river is showing green on the level gauges, the Avon is sheltered water, less than grade 1. (but please check the river levels to make sure it is safe for your activities).
Do you need a life jacket on a paddle board?
The USCG regulations state that
each paddler over the age of 12 must have a “USCG-approved Type I, II, III, or appropriate Type V” life jacket
. While riders over the age of 12 are not required to wear a life jacket on the water, wearing your PFD certainly the smart approach to staying safe on your paddle board.

All epoxy paddle boards (hard paddle boards) will suffice in the ocean because of their rigidity
. That’s why all surf SUPs and race SUPs are epoxy. No matter what shape or size your epoxy is, it should be able to handle the ocean so you can fully enjoy your experience.
Can you paddleboard on Windermere?

Locks, weirs and sluices can be very dangerous
. Don’t stay aboard your craft in a filling or emptying lock – carry it around. If it’s too heavy, use ropes to keep control from the side. Larger boats need deeper water so keep to the side of the canal where the boater can see you.

You need a licence to hire out pleasure boats for personal use or carrying passengers
. These include sailboards, rowing boats, canoes, motorboats and pedalos. You must also have the appropriate pilot’s qualification and certificate if you plan on transporting passengers.
